After a stint on three teams in the NFL, UCF alumnus John Rhys Plumlee will start in the UFL.
The Houston Gamblers acquired Plumlee last week in an effort to light a spark to turn around from a 2-4 record. In a strange twist of fate, this Mother’s Day, Plumlee will be facing the Orlando Storm.
Orlando was once where Plumlee played home games in the Bounce House. Now, he and the Gamblers are hosting the team from Orlando. The Storm currently sits at 4-2.
With four games remaining in the regular season, it’s time for the Gambler’s to go all in to attempt to make a playoff push. Fans are hoping that Plumlee is their ace in the hole that can help them cash in a winning record this season, if not a potential playoff appearance.
Plumlee graduated from UCF in 2023 as the team’s starting quarterback after their first year in the Big 12 as a Power 4 team. That year, he threw for 2,271 yards with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions while playing in 10 games.
He was also third on the squad in rushing, playing alongside current Denver Bronco RJ Harvey. That team also went 6-7 after losing in the Gasparilla Bowl to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a game he left early due to injury. This is the last time UCF has made a bowl game.
Plumlee has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sunday’s game with the Gamblers would represent his first regular season start in professional football.
